Web writing

5 General Principles

On my website, I front-load the content that is important in the opening paragraph followed by supporting details in order to be succinct and concise.

The website is scannable;

  • Bold the keywords

  • Short paragraph

  • Provide white space

  • Listing in bullet points

I also use "We" and "You" to sound more welcome and make readers involved. Every sentence uses action verbs as well.

To be actionable, there are words on Home page and About Us page that are highlighted in blue or underlined that will lead the readers to the detailed information page of those words they clicked. There are also "Learn more" buttons and "Add to Cart" buttons for readers to take action as well.

F Tracking

To avoid the readers to read in the F-shaped pattern, I use the heading and subheading on my About Us pages. I also grouped the information and related content in the boxes to layout the website in an easy-to-read form. Also, I also call out numbers and list important information in bullet points.

Exhaustive Review

To avoid exhaustive review, I grouped related information together to give the readers the opportunity to easily find the information.  On the product page, the related products are also shown on each product page. The logo is located on the top left of the page because the readers expect to find the logo there.

Plain English and Inverted Pyramid

I straightforward state about the company and products by using plain language that easy to understand and digest the essence of the message.

Chunking

I use text chunking by balancing white space between paragraphs and showing visuals such as pictures of the products.

Tone

I mostly use a serious tone to sound more professional and being expertise in skincare.
